Pause - An Exercise in Mindfulness
For this term's Yoga and Meditation course I introduced a weekly take-home exercise, an optional activity to introduce students to tools and techniques that they can implement into their daily lives.

This week's exercise is one that I've read in posts by a number of mindfulness teachers, namely, for students to find moments during their days to pause, be still, and notice what they can see, hear, smell, feel and taste.
I also love time prompts in Instagram community events where everyone participating takes and posts a photo of that moment. So I set up a "mini" Instagram event. Feel free to join in if you're interested!
The Pause! Event
- There are no rules.
- Start whenever you want.
- Post as little or as much as you like.
- Choose your moments.
As this event originated as a weekly exercise, it was designed to provide four moments during a 7-day period where students could be still and sense what is around them:
- 12:34pm on Day 1 or 2
- 6:21pm on Day 3 or 4
- 10:46am on Day 5 or 6
- 8:12am on Day 7
This event will continue to Friday 7 December, the end of the college term, so your seven days can be any seven days within that period and don't have to be consecutive.
Tip: Schedule your moments into your calendar.
- Post to your favourite social media app.
I'm most active on Instagram but you can also find me on Facebook and Twitter.
- Tag your posts with #lly_pause so those participating can find your posts.
